POST OFFICE NOTICES

Mails close at the Chief Post Office for tho following places as under, subject to the necessary alterations MONDAY, DECEMBER 30. For Otago and Australian Colonies, per Albion, at 11.30 a.m.; lute fee letters, 11.50 a.m.; late letterbox, guard’s van, 12.10 p.r.tiain. For Otago, per Eashy, at 1.60 p.m.; late fee letters, 2.10 p.m.; late letter box, guard’s van, 2.40 p.m. train. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 31. For Northern Ports, per Ladybird. For Nelson, Westport, and Greymouth, per Maori. The next mail for the United Kingdom, via San Francisco, will close at Christchurch on January Brd, and will bo duo in London on February 18th, 1879. The next English mails via Southampton and Brindisi will close at Christchurch on January 15th. The mail via Southampton will be due in London on March 17th, and the mail via Brindisi on March 10th, 1879. On and after 2nd January prox. there will he a free delivery of correspondence in the districts of St. Albans, Phillipstown, Bingsland, Caledonian road, Cashel street east, Knightstown, and Addington ; consequently the Post Offices at those places will’ bo discontinued, and receiving boxes, to be cleared twice daily, will bo substituted. In order to facilitate the delivery, residents are requested to get their letters addressed as fully as possible. , Correspondence for persons who reside beyond the free delivery will, at their request, be left at any store or house within the bounds of the deliTery ‘ SYDNEY J.
