CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, December 20, (Before G. Le*lio Lee, Esq., J.P.) Dbunk and Disorderly—A first offender was fined ss. Obscene Language.— Edward a. ISookeg, on remand, was charged wPh making use of obscene language in a public place. Mr Neck appeared for the accused. According to the evidence of two little girls the language was made use of iu High street on the 18lh instant, between eleven and twelve o clock noon. They subsequently complained to a constable, who, from their description, identified the accused, who, at his request, accompanied him to the police depot, where the witnesses afterwards picked him out from a number of other men, and identified him as the man who had made use of the language complained of. The whole case turned on the question of identity, which Mr Neck considered inconclusive, but the Court judged otherwise, and inflicted a fine of £2 or ninetysix hours’ imprisonment with hard labor.

LYTTELTON. Friday, December 20. [Before J. T. Rouse, Esq., H. AHwright, Esq., and T. H. Potts, Esq., J.P.’s.] Assault.— Robert Nagitt, John McCarthy, and George Sopp, were charged with committing an assault upon Oresti Sqirelli, an Italian, on Monday night last, on the railway cars coming from ‘Christchurch to Lyttelton. The prosecutor stated ho was assaulted by accused in being pulled by the moustache, kicked at, and insulted with profane language. The evidence showed that informant was the real offender, and the Bench dismissed the charge. Lunacy.— Carl Hauseman was removed from the gaol to Sunnysido Asylum yesterday, on remand from the R.M. Court, Christchurch, for treatment for insanity from drink. Transfer of Hotel Licence. James B. Hill was grant ed a temporary transfer of license of the Hotel Mitre from H. W. Brien.
