MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, December 19. FBofore G. L. Lee, Esq., and E. Hobbs, Esq., J.P.’s.] Drunk and Disorderly. Two first offenders were each fined os. Lunacy.—Henry Allard was charged with lunacy from drink. JScrgeant Morice deposed that the previous evening the accused came to the depot, and asked to be taken to the dead house as his head was bursting. Ho was afterwards examined by the District Surgeon, who stated ho was suffering from delirium tremens through drink. Remanded to Lyttelton until the 27th for medical treatment. Indecent Exposure,—o. T. Sinnock was charged with indecently exposing himself in a public place. The public having withdrawn at the request of the Bench, a female witness stated the particulars of the offence, which was committed on Sunday in Lichfield street, and she again saw the prisorer on Monday morning in High street. The offence was of the most wilful character, and the identification of the prisoner complete. The witness subsequently told her relatives what had taken place, which ledjto the present prosecution. The prisoner denied all knowledge of the circumstances. He had only been in the colony about two years, and was about to return to England as a surgeon of a ship. A near relative of the prosecutrix, one of the witnesses, stated to the Bench that as the prisoner appeared to be an educated man he had no desire to press for the severest penalty. The Bench considered that fact to be rather an aggravation of the case, and sentenced the prisoner to six months’ imprisonment, with hard labor. Obscene Language.—Edward T. Nookes, was charged with making use of obscene language in a public place. None of the witnesses coming forward the accused, who stated ho was a chemist, was remanded until to-morrow in order that the witnesses might be subpoenaed. The accused was admitted to hail in his own recognizance in the sum cf £lO.
