EECTEJi's TELEGEAM3 TO PEKSS AGENCY. London, December 14. The Princess Alice of Hesse Darmstadt died at seven this morning. Gerald Fitzgerald, late of Calcutta, has been appointed Comptroller-General of the Finances of India.

Sydney, December 16. The A. S. N. Company have obtained a temporary success over the Newcastle coal miners, but Saturday's determination continues.

The Church of England body is about to organise a general church fund for tne diocese of Wellington to provide adequate stipends for such a body of clergy as may be required to build churches, parsonages, and schools, and train young men for the work of the Ministry. It is propoed to raise the fund by certain graduated weekly subscriptions. Nelson, December IG. Colonel Whitmoi'e on Saturday had a long interview with the Mayor and chairman of the Waimea County Council and Hospital committee re charitable aid ard hospital management, but nothing definite was arrived at. Twenty-nine candidates have gone up to day for the civil service examination, eight being for the senior examination. Dunedin, December IG. In Saint Paul's Church last night, Archdeacon tdwards announced that a special effort would shortly be made to raise the sum of i;l000 to supplement tho incomes of poorly paid clergy. Mr li. ri. Leary, the retiring Mayor, was today presented with a silver cradle, because a child was born to him during his term of office. [from OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] Dunedin, December 16. The Eov. A. R. Fitohett will join tho Episcopalian Commun on, and a strong effort will be made to secure him for All Saint's. A good deal of feeling is expressed over the wrestling match, the opinion generaly condemning tho unfair method adopted by Tyson. Thomas's supporters have prevailed on him to stop until the New V ear's sports, when Tyson will be again challenged, and Saturday's tactics be prevented. The Hon. tfohert Stout had intended addres sing his constituents this week, but owing to Mr Macandrew's detention at Auckland, he has put off the meeting until January.
