[Br Telegraph.] [Per Agnes McDonald via Auckland.] The natives are employed making a carriage road round Ovaiau, The Governor met the chiefs at Ban, and opened their meeting. In addressing them, ho combatted the idea that the aborigines must die before the white man. He instanced Java, whore the population had vastly increased, and India, Ho urged them to take proper precautions again disease, and submit to vaccination. The Queen’s Government would support, their Native laws as being best adapted to their circumstances. Lakba and all the islands to windward are sadly in want of rain. The fine rain that fell at Loma some weeks or so ago did not extend so far as Lakba. Tim Tonga Parliament is sitting, and has repealed various laws prohibiting manufacturing, weaving, and wearing of native cloth and clothing. Men and women can now wear any kind of clothing they choose. All that is required is that it shall be decent. In church, at Kurukulufa, men must dress in coats, trousers, shoes, &e., and women, like their white sisters, with dress, bonnets, &c. Anyone who from disinclination or inability does not, or cannot, comply with this regulation must be content to worship outside or in the porches. The prohibition against women smoking has been considerably modified, and ladies may now enjoy their weed. A treaty of amity has been concluded between England and the King of Tonga.
