The first of ;t series of monthly' competitions by the members of the Christchuroh battery of Artillery for a Henry rifle, presented by Captain Craig, took place yesterSay at the new range. The conditions under which the rifle was shot for are as follows : The competition to take place monthly 3 com'
mencing on Wednesday, December 4th. Ranges—2oo, 300, 400, and 500 yards ; any position ; lire a hots at each range. Ties to be fired off at the longest range. The rifle is to be won thrice by the same competitor before it becomes his private property. Size of targets—At 200 and 300 yards, 6t't. x 4ft., centre 2ft., bull's eye Sin. ; 400 and 500 yards, 6ft. x 6ft., centre 4ft., hull's eye 2ft. The artillery carbine with regulation pull to be used only in the firing. As will be seen by the accompanying scores, Quarter-Master Sergeant Fox has scored the first win with 58 points, out of a possible 80.
