THE EDUCATION COMMISSION.
[By Telegraph.] Wellington, November 30.
A circular letter from Mr Ballance to the Boards regarding the secondary schools of the colony, says that the directions to the Commission will be ; —To enquire and report upon University of New Zealand and its effects upon other institutions for the promotion of secondary and higher education. (2) The operation of intermediate and higher educational institutions, Ac (3) The status, remuneration, and general efficiency of teachers. (4) The formation of training institutions, schools of design, and schools or colleges of practical science, and the relations they should bear to the university and educational institutions of the colony. (5) The best and most economical mode regarding administration, inspection, &c., and for making the institutions as efficient and available to all sexes and all classes, by making evening schools, as possible. (6) The best mode of making pecuniary provision for the promotion of education generally, and the increase of the efficiency of the educational establishments of the colony. Suggestions regarding the objects of the commission are invited.
