MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday, November 30. (Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.) Drunk and Disorderly. —A first offender was fined sa. George Johnson for the same offence was ordered to pay 10s. Isabella Leckie, just out of prison, was charged with drunkenness, and sentenced to twelvemonths’ imprisonment with hard labor. Vagrancy. —Peter Bomolus was brought up charged with havingno lawful visible means of support. The constable who arrested him found him sleeping in the park. Detective Walker said the prisoner (a foreigner) did nothing for a living but went from house to house begging. The prisoner was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labor, and left the Court vowing in broken English that he would not work for “ the biggest magistrate.” Forgery. — Wm. Noon, on remand from Timaru, was brought up on a charge of forging and uttering an order for £4. Mr Inspector Hickson said the accused had been apprehended on two charges of forging and uttering, and it was suspected he could be identified in Christchurch as having committed a similar offence, for which purpose he had been sent from Timaru. It was arranged that the accused should be sent back to Timaru at the discretion of Mr Inspector Hickson failing identification here.
