THE LAND TAX ACT.

[By Telegraph.] Wellington, November 27. A supplement to the Government " Gazette " of Thursday, issued this evening, contiins an Order in Council giving the various divisions of the colony into districts under the Land Tax Act, 1877, together with boundaries of each district. The second schedule gives the counties in each district as follows:—Auckland shall comprise the following counties and all boroughs within the said counties —Bay of Islands, Coromandel, Eden, Hobson, Hokianga, Kawhia, Manakau, Mongonui, Pinko, h'agkn, Rodney, Taupo, East Taupo. We-t Tauranga, Thames, Whakatane, Whangarei, Waikato, Waipa, and Waimate counties. Hawke's Bay shall comprise Cook, Hawke's Bay, Waipawa, ani Wai.-oa counties. Wellington shnli comprise Htitt Manawatu, Patea, Kangitiki, I aranaki, Wairarapa East, Wair.irapa West, and Wanganui counties. IS'el-on shall comprise Amuri, Buller, Cheviot, Collingwood, Grey, Inangahua, Kaikoura. Marlborough, Sounds, Waimea and Westland counties. Canter ury shall comprise Akaroa, Ashburton, Ashley, Geraldine, Selwyn, and Waimate counties. Otago shall comprise Bruce, Clutha, Fiord, Lake Maniototo, Peninsula, Southland, Stewart's Island,Tt-ieri,Tuapoka, Vincent, Waikouaiti, Waitaki, and Wallace counties. The following appointments under the same Act are gazetted : - John Sperrey, Land Tax Commissioner, as from the 13th instant. Thos. Maekay, Deputy Land Tax Commissioner for Nelson district from 13th instant. Edward Ci'cuit Latter, Deputy Land Tax Commissioner for Otago district from 24th instant. Benjamin McLean. Deputy Land Tax Commissioner for Auckland district from 20th instant. The Commissioner and Deputy Co.umis-doners are authorised to frank letters and parcels ported on public service. An Order in Council in the " Gazette" makes regulations for purp-ses of the Land Tax Act of which the following is the substance :—"The commissioner shall have full control over and L'ive instructions to all officers, and may from time to time require their books and pipers for tho purpose of examination The duty of valuer is to obtain from every owner of land within his district a written satement of the lands and tenements occupied by him with the value thereof to sell and nature, and value of tho different improvements, and whore such a return can be obtained personally, thf) valuer is to obtain it and i ver> obstruction to valuers involves a penalty. Upon completion of the valuation li-ts, thy are to be deposited tor fourteen days in a public place. Ev.-ry collector is to make his returns in a prescribed form. Every District I and Beg strar and Registrar of Deeds shall, in the fir t week of every month, deliver to Deputy Commissioner a return of all lands in which any change of ownership has taken piace. Kvery Commissioner of Crown Lands B'hall also, in the first week in each monttt. deliver to Deputy Com missioncr a return of all Crown lands sold or otherwise alienated in his di trict. Wardens' clerks sh «11 also furnish similar returns regarding leases or licenses granted or transferred under Mines Act, 877."
