HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

Tuesday, Novemuee 26. The usual weekly mooting of this body was held at the hospital at 7 o’clock. Present— Messrs Booth (in the chair), Montgomery, and Dr. Turnbull. The chairman stared that after the meeting last week, the Board had visited the padded room, which they had found in a very bad state. It hud to be thoroughly repaired at a cost of £2O. The action taken by the chairman in haring the room padded was approved. It was resolved to obtain a uniform for the gatekeep r, the messenger to he afterwards clothed if it was thought necessary. left at his office for the hospital from a member of the Hope of Leestou Good Templar Lodge, Dr. Chiltern reported that during the week there had been nine admissions and sixteen dischargee. He also stated that during the week he had received a number of letters from doctors in the town in the shape of orders to admit patients. Most of them were of a very curt character. Ho had not recognised them. The Chairman stated that a resolution had been passed at a former meeting of the Board that such letters were not to be recognised, ns doctors had no authority to give such orders. It was resolved to sanction the appointment of another cleaner for the Hospital. The question of the woman Maule not having been admitted to the Hospital was brought up. The Board approved of the action of the surgeon in refusing to admit her, and seemed to bo of opinion that the police ought to be able to deal with such cases. Dr. Chiltern also stated that he had attended to the hand of Mr Armstrong, the curator of the gardens, which was cut. Mr Armstrong had told him that the person who had assaulted him was willing to pay all expenses. It was suggested that ho should make a donation to the hospital. The Board authorised the house steward to obtain the services of a boy to assist the cook. The Board then proceeded to consider a number of matters of detail connected with the Orphanage, after which it adjourned.
