HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The Board held its usual weekly meeting last night, at 7 o'clock. Present, the Mayor of Sydenham (in the chair), Messrs W. Montgomery, Dr. Turnbull, and J. E. March (secretary). Tho minutes of the Inst meeting were read and confirmed. Also the report of the subcommittee (in conference with Dr Powell), appointed to enquire into the question of the subsatutiou df the pan instead of 'he cesspit system hitherto adopted at the hospital, and other matters connected with theinstitufcjon.
donation. Dr, Turnbull stated that £2 had been sent to him anonymously for the Old Men s Home. GATE KEEPEE. On the recommendation of the house steward, it was resolved that the gate keeper and messenger be provided with a uniform coat and cap. SUBSCBIBEES’ BED. A letter was read from the secretary of the Dunedin Hospital, staling that there is no arrangement existing in connection with that institution for giving annual subscribers of £— a bed for one patient throughout the year, INVALID CHAIIi. _ A letter was read from Guthrie, suggesting the desirability of furnishing the Akaroa Hospital with a chair for invalids. It was decided to grant the application. ADMISSIONS AND DIBCIIABGEB. There were twelve admissions and six discharges during the past week. HOUSE steward’s REPOET. The house steward reported that in accordance with the Board’s instructions he had caused measures to be taken to remove the cess-pit at the rear of No. 1 ward, and substitute pans with covers. Arrangements had also been made with the Ministers’ Association to hold a service on Sunday afternoons, the first of which had been held last Sunday, between the hours of 4 and 5 p.m. A new admission and discharge book was required for the ensuing year, also order and pass books. The report was approved. The following estimated cost of Hospitals was submitted to the Board by Mr j. B. March, on the principle of Government subsidising local contributions £ for £ :—Estimated cost of Hospitals, £6OOO. On the basis of population each municipality or county would contribute as under Municipalities—
ORPHANAGE. A numbor of applications, in connection with the Lyttelton Orphanage, were considered and dealt with. The total number of inmates at the Orphanage, as reported by Mr Sopp, was 100 of both sexes. During the month of October there had been four admissions, and the same number had left the Orphanage. ABHBUETON HOME. Mr J. E. March reported that a supply of clothing was required for the old men in the Ashburton Home. It was resolved that the articles required shonld be supplied. CHARITABLE AID. Applications for charitable aid were considered and dealt with. This terminated the business, and the Board adjourned.
