RIFLE SHOOTING.
There was a very good attendance on the Cashmere rifle ratigo yesterday, when the first competitive practice of those selected to practise for the Interprovincial mutch with Otago took place. The days |fixed for competitive practice hy the selection committee are Thursday and kSaturday afternoons in each week. Of course there will be private practice amongst members on other dais. It is hoped, however, that, all will take as much prac'iee as possible, and that our representatives will leave no stone unturned to iffect a victory for Canterbury. There is no doubt our men will fire in Dunedin at a disadvantage, but it is hoped, notwithstanding, they will give a good account of themselves.
The competitors yesterday wero very much baffled by the wind and constantly changing light, and, until all have had a little more experience, no brilliant success may be expected. The following are the scores. The conditions were seven shots at e»ch range :
On commencing the 600 yards range there was a change of wind, blowing across and down, which caused most of the shots to fall short. There is no doubt that greater judgment is required now, than the men have ever previously exercised, but it will prove splendid practice tor them. The next practice will be held on Thursday next at 1 30 p m.
