CEMETERY BOARD.

The first meeting of the newly formed Cemetery Board was held yesterday in the office of Messrs Jameson Bros., at 4 p.m. There were present the Rev. 11.0. M. Watson, Rev. C. Fraser, Rev. W. Morley, Father Ginnerty, Messrs J. P. Jameson, F. de c. Malet, and John Anderson. The Rev. H. C. M. Watson was provisionally voted to the chair, and commenced the proceedings by reading the names of the gentlemen who had been appointed trustees —lie said the first duty to bo performed was to elect a chairman, and after a brief discussion it was resolved that the chairman should be elected annually. Mr F. de c. Malet proposed that Mr J. P. Jameson should be chairman for the ensuing year. Mr John Anderson seconded the motion. The Rev. C. Fraser said he should have preferred to see elected as chairman one of the clerical members of the Board, as he thought they were more likely to be acquainted with the nature of the duties, and could devote more time to them. He would like to propose the Rev. Mr Watson as their first chairman. The Rev. Mr Watson acknowledged the compliment paid him by Mr Fraser, but declined the honor in favor of Mr Jameson. The motion was then put, and Mr J. P. Jameson elected chairman of the Board for the ensuing year, and took his seat. Ho said that no communication had been received from the Selwyn County Council, but the proper course now would bo to acquaint them of Hie appointment of a chairman, and ask what was the amount of money available at their disposal. The next thing would bo to appoint a treasurer. The Rev. W. Morley moved—“ That Mr John Anderson be appointed treasurer, which was seconded and carried. A short discussion took place relative to the size and position of the site which had been purchased, but the general opinion of the Board was that these matters should be deferred until their next meeting, when a sub •committee could be to go into the matter of detail. The Chairman said that by their next meeting he would procure returns from the various cemeteries and place them on the table ; and also at the suggestion of the Rev. C, Fraser, said he would procure copies of the now Cemeteries Act for the use of the members of the Board. It was resolved that the ordinary meetings of the Board should take place on the first Monday in each month, and if occasion arose a special meeting could be called by the chairman. The Board then adjourned. AG-RICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the committee of the above was held yesterday. Present—Messrs W. Norman (president), E. B. Bishop, Duncan, Sutherland, Deans, Henderson, Bruce, Mann, Q-ilmour, Holly, Ford, and Mcßeath. On the motion of Mr Duncan, it was resolved that the silver medal of the association represent prizes to the value of £3 3s. With respect to watering the road on the morning of the show, Mr Duncan suggested that the Sydenham and City Councils should be waited upon on the subject. He moved—- “ That the yard committee request the City Council, with the concurrence of the Sydenham Borough Council, to have Colombo street watered on the morning of the show, the association paying for the same.’* Mr E. B. Bishop seconded the motion, which was agreed to. The President brought under the notice of the committee the wish of the brewers that the beer should bo sampled after the judges hud completed their work. There was, he supposed, no objection to this course, so long as the brewers took the responsibility. The committee resolved to allow the sampling to be done, provided the brewers had a man in charge of the exhibits. The next question was the price of the prize books awarded by the Association. The committee recommended that a slight advance should be made in the price of the books given as prizes, so as to bring them to the price charged by the booksellers. On the motion of Mr Duncan, the recommendation of the committee was adopted. An application was received from the A. asking for the use of the association grounds on Boxing Day, for holding their annual fete. It was resolved that the use of the ground bo granted at the same price as last year, and on the same conditions, The secretary stated that ho bad interviewed several tradesmen of the city, who bad offered to sell the passes to the grounds, so as to prevent the crush and stoppage at the gates. It was resolved that the secretary supply those who are willing to sell the passes with them. A protest committee was appointed, consisting of the President, Hon. J. Hall, MessrsE. B. A. Duncan, J. T. Ford, Henderson, P, Cunningham, and Or. Gould. A number of new members were elected. Permission was given to Mr J. T. Ford to erect hurdle pens for exhibits of sheep, subject to the concurrence of the yard cornmi ttee. Several accounts wore passed, and Mr Henderson, on behalf of the Ground Committee, reported that the horse boxes had been completed and would prove to bo a very a very great convenience. A telegram was read from the Governor, stating that he would bo present at the show on the Bth and Oth November. It was resolved that his Excellency be naked to attend the dinner on the evening of Saturday. Mr Mcßeath brought under the notice of the committee the necessity of having some scuts on the ground for ladies. Mr Duncan, in the course of conversation, suggested that a grand stand should bo erected on the show grounds next year, a

suggestion which appeared to find favor with the members of committee.

A letter was read from Mr G. G. Stead, certifying that his mares entered in the blood stock class had fonlcd at the last foaling season in England. On the motion of Mr Bruce, the entry was received, the decision of the matter being left to the protest committee. After the transaction of some further business, the committee adjourned.
