The Taranaki, s.s., arrived from Northern ports at 8.30 a.m. to-day. She sails for Port Chalmers this afternoon. The Dunedin “ Evening Star ’’ says of the arrival of the Oceania This vessel is decidedly worthy of more than usual notice, being colonmlhuilt, and as pretty a model as ever came into the port. She is owned by Captain Firth, a well-known trader to this port in years gone by in the barque Rachael. Her builder was Mr John Lucas, of Hobart Town, and she has been constructed of the very best materials. She is a fine weatherly craft, and carries her cargo in beautiful order, being as dry as a ship could possibly be. She is now two years old, and since she left the stocks has been employed trading from one port to another in China. She brings 12,189 packages of tea—part for this port and part for Lyttelton—and will discharge in Dunedin.
