CITY ELECTION.

At noon to-day Mr E. J. Lee, the Returning Officer, declared the result of yesterday’s polling for the election of five Councillors for the City. The numbers were as follows ; Fred Jenkins 533 Wm. Clifford ... ... 494 B. Cass 419 R. Binstead 355 W. Tremayne ... ... 344 J, Barrett 270 Mr Lee accordingly declared the first five in the above list duly elected. The successful candidates, with the exception of Mr Clifford, who was not present, briefly addressed the electors, thanking them for the honor done. This brought the proceedings, about which there was no sort of excitement to a close. The new councillors will probably make the necessary declaration and assume their seats to-night.
