The barque Thurso from Newcastle, and barquentine Jessie McDonald from Wellington arrived this morning. The s.s. Wanaka arrived at noon to-day from Northern Ports. She sails for Port Chalmers, via Akaroa, this afternoon. The s.s. Easby from Port Chalmers was coming up the harbor when our express left. She sails for Sydney via Wellington this afternoon. The s.s. lui arrived at 8 a.m. to-day. Sho sails for Kaikoura, Wellington, and Foxton to-night. SHIPPING TELEGRAM, it Wellington, October 8. The Eakaia is at the Heads with immigrants from London. The Stella goes to tow her in. POST OFFICE NOTICES. Mails close at the Chief Post Office for the following places as under, subject to the necessary alterations WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9, For Northern Ports, per Taiaroa, at 1.50 p.m, late letters, 2.10 p.m. railway station, 2.40 p.m. train. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10. Australian Colonies, Greymouth, Westport, and Northern Ports, per Taiaroa. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11. Mails per Rotorua will close as under : For the United Kingdom and Continent of Europe, via San Francisco, America, Canada, Sandwich Islands, Sydney, Brisbane, Northern Ports of New Zealand, &c., at 3 p.m.; late letters, 3.20 p.m. Newspapers, books, at 2 p.m. Registered letters, 2 p.m. Money orders, 1 p.m. Late letters for the above mails per Rotorua can he posted in the guard’s van attached to the 4 p.m. Lyttelton train, provided such letters bear, in addition to the ordinary postage, a further single rate of postage as a late fee.
