[By Telegraph.] [fbom tite cobbespondent of the pbess.] railway reserves sale bill. This Bill was introduced yesterday by the Attorney-General and read a first time. Its object is to authorise the sale of reserves in Canterbury, townships and villages, on the deferred payment system.

FORFEITED weights and measures. On Thursday next Mr Swanson will ask the Minister of Justice the following series of questions :—(1.) What becomes of forfeited weights and measures? If tbey are sold, is such sale made by public auction or private tender ? Does such |salcs take place at stated times, and if so what are the dates ? (2.) What amounts have been received from such sales in each provincial district, and to what account are the proceeds carried? (3.) Is any [record kept of the number and kind of weights and measures forfeited, and from whom taken? If so, whether tho Government will lay such return before this House ? (4 ) Whether the Weights and Measures Act applies to buyers as well as sellers within the colony ? THE NELSON AND MARLBOROUGH MEMBERS. A caucus of Nelson and Marlborough members was held to-day to discuss the Public Works policy, as affecting Nelson and Marlborough. THE WAIMATE MURDER. Intelligence received to-day by the Hon. the Native Minister was to the effect that there was every reason to believe that Hiroki was lurking in the neighbourhood where the murder had been committed, and that every effort was being made to effect his capture. Mr Sheehan has received a resolution adopted at a meeting of Patea Maoris, expressing detestation of the crime of Hiroki, and hoping that no stone would be left unturned to catch him.
