AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
A committee meeting of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held yesterday, at 2.30 pm. Present— Messrs W, Norman (chairman), Bruce, Money, Henderson, Newton, Mann, Holley, Mcßeath, Eergusson, Gilmour, Sutherland, Deans, Gar forth. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary reported that he had written to Mr Macfarlane, secretary of the National Agricultural and Pastoral Association, Melbourne, infoi’ming him that the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association had passed a resolution affirming the desirability of appointing judges from Victoria for draught and light horses, breeding and blood stock, and enclosing the names of those gentlemen whose services they would be glad to secure in that capacity, at the same time requesting the secretary of the National Agricultural and Pastoral Association to communicate to the gentlemen named the wish of the Canterbury Association, and ask if they were willing to visit Now Zealand. And in the event of those gentlemen being unable or unwilling to act as judges, requesting him to recommend other gentlemen who would be willing to visit New Zealand to act in the capacity required. Sufficient time had not elapsed for an answer to bo received. The next business of the meeting was the election of a yard committee, which resulted in the appointment of the following gentlemen—Messrs Money, Henderson, Ferguson, Holley, Bruce, and James Wilkin. SELECTION COMMITTEE. Messrs Mann, Gilmour, and Garforth wore appointed a committee to select a piece of ground for the trial of implements. MARSHALS. The committee proceeded to the election of marshals, and the following gentlemen were appointed : —Merino sheep, Mr F. C, Tabart; English Leicester sheep, Mr John Gebbie ; Border Leicesters, Mr Mathias; Lincoln sheep, Mr John Deans ; Romney Marsh, Cotswold, half-bred and cross-bred sheep, Mr John Miln; South Down sheep, Mr Ferguson; wool, Mr F. C. Tabart; sheep dogs, Mr John Deans ; Shorthorn and Devon cattle, Mr Mcßeth; Alderney, Guernsey, and Breton cattle, Mr James Mcllraith ; fat cattle, Mr Money; fat sheep, Mr A. Duncan ; draught horses, Air* James Wilkin'; light, horses, Mr S. Garforth; pigs, Mr Job Osborne; poultry, Air J. R. Hill; implements, Messrs Gilmour, Holley, and the Rev. A. P. O’Callaghan; dairy produce, Air H. E. Alport; pnanufactures and produce, Mr R. Sutherland. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was read from Air Charles Allison, Junr., asking for one year’s extension of his time as keeper of the Sydenham pound. The matter was referred to the ground committee. A letter was read from Mr George Reid, asking for the exclusive privilege of putting up a mechanical shooting gallery on the Show ground of the association. Also referred to the ground committee to decide upon. association's medal. A letter was read from Alessrs Coates and Co., forwarding the silver medal ns a sample of the twenty five ordered by the association. The letter was ordered to be acknowledged An application was received from the Sydenham Cricket Club for the use of the association grounds at Sydenham for three days a week during the cricketing season, for the purpose of playing on, under certain restrictions and conditions. The secretary wss ordered to acknowledge the receipt of tbo letter, and state the committee regret that they cannot see their way to comply with the request, although (hey would not object to entertain proposals for playing a special match, for which purpose application would have to bo made to the ground committee. ITOESE BOXES. A discussion took place as to the desirability of erecting horse boxes on the association’s show grounds, for the use of exhibitors’ draught entire horses. Various suggestions were made as to their size and construction, and other necessary details, and it was ultimately decided that a sub-committee should be appointed to inquire the cost of erecting twenty boxes, and the time that would be necessary for their erection. Messrs Anderson, Bruce, Money, Sutherland, and the chairman were appointed a committee, with power either to carry out the matter if practicable and time permitted, or abandon it at their own discretion. It was resolved that in the event of its being impossible to have the loose boxes mado in time for the show that entire horses should not be asked to bo on the ground before 9 a.m. on the second day, October 9th. NEW OFFICES. Air Sutherland reported that the new offices would be ready for the occupation of the association next Monday, October Ist. NEW MEMBERS. The following new members were elected : —Messrs G. W. H. Lee, the Warren, Oxford; E. H. Banks, grain merchant; John Carter, Ashburton; AI. Holmes, Oamaru; H. C. Young, Upper Riccarton ; and W. B. Clarkson, Upper Riccarton. Sundry accounts were passed for payment, and Messrs H. P. Alurray-Aynsley, J, Mann, Mcßoth and Bruce were appointed the dinner committee. This terminated the business, and the meeting adjourned.
