VITAL STATISTICS.

The following is the Registrar-General’s report on the vital statistics of the Boroughs of Auckland, Thames, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Hokitika during the month of August, 1878,

The births were 51 less in number than in J uly. The deaths were 8 more in number than the deaths in July. Of the deaths, males contributed 67 ; females, 38 ; 37 of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 3o'o per cent, of the whole number; 27 of these were of children under 1 year of age. The were 14 deaths of persons over 65 years of a»e; Bof these were females and 6 were males ; 1 male of 70, and 2 females of 85 and 100 years, died at Auckland ; 1 male of 67, and 1 female of 73 years, died at Thames ; 1 female of 68 years died at Wellington; 1 female of 68 years died at Nelson ; 4 males of 68, 70, 73, arid 74 years, and 3 females of 66, 73, and 86 years, died at Dunedin.
