CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor of the Globe. SlB, —In this morning's " Press," I find a letter from Mr Banks denying the truth of a paragraph which appeared in the "Press" and Globe of yesterday, which stated that he had refused to be nominated for one of tho vacant seats in the City Council. Had Mr Banks confined himself to a simple denial, 1 should have said nothing, but as ho makes a false and ungenerous reference to myself, I feel bound to reply. I met Mr Banks on Tuesday morning last in the ollice of a grain merchant in Hereford street, there bping the merchant and another gentleman present. In reply to a question whether he would stand or not, Mr Banks said positively he would not, giving as his reason that Mr Wilson, after signing his (Mr Banks') requisition, and promising his support, had not voted for nor assisted him in any way; and further, had denied having signed the requisition.
If this is not sufficient contradiction I am prepared to give up the names of the gentlemen to whom I refer.
Yours, &c, CItABLES E. BRIGO3. September 19th, 1878.
