BOROUGH COUNCILS.
SYDENHAM. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Sydenham Borough Council was held last evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor, and Crs Langdown, Andrew, Jones, Hall, Foster, Charters, and Brown. MINUTES. The minutes of the special, usual, and adjourned meetings were read and confirmed. NEW COUNCILLOBS. The declaration of the three newly-elected Crs was then taken. THB BAILWAY BOAD. The Mayor stated that he had had an interview with the Hon. Robert Stout, who had advised that the Council should prosecute trespassers on the road alongside the railway. He (the Mayor) would suggest that the ratepayers should be consulted on this matter before any steps were taken. besebve at addington. Cr. Chatters moved, Cr. Brown seconded, and it was carried, " That the clerk to the Conference be communicated with, and that he be requested to see if a Bill for vesting in the the Borough Council the five acres reserve at Addington is now before the House." On the motion of Cr. Hall, seconded by Cr. Brown, it was resolved that the Council employes should trim the outside of the fence of the reserve in question. On the resolution of Cr. Hall, seconded by Cr. Langdown, the following motion was carried :—" That this Council is satisfied with the proof given by Mr Treadwell as regards the road in question, and thanks him for the trouble he has taken." COEBESPONDENCE. A letter was read from the Riccarton Road Board, acknowledging the receipt of one recommending them to take some action in the matter of getting the night soil reserve vested in the Council. The letter stated that the Riccarton Road Board had not sufficient interest in the matter to take any action. The letter was received. A letter was read from the clerk of the late Conference in Wellington, stating that the Bhare of the Sydenham Council in the expenses was £5 ss, for which amount that body had been drawn upon. Resolved, to acknowledge and honor the same. A letter was read from the Department of Justice stating that the visiting Juscices of Addington Gaol had been written to with a view to the employment of prisoners by the Borough of Sydenham. BBMISSION OP BATES. On the motion of Cr. Hall, seconded by Cr. Brown, the following resolution was agreed to—" That no remission of rates be made, but in lieu thereof, charitable aid be given to all those actually in want." A number of applications for such remission were referred to the finance committee. ELECTION OF COUNCILLOBS. On the motion of Cr. Charters, the election of the various Councillors was postponed until the next meeting. CHANNELLING. The question of channelling the borough were referred to the works committee. WINDMILL BOAD. The Mayor and Cr. Brown were appointed a deputation to wait upon Mr Harman re the widening of Windmill road. PICNIC. The following resolution was carried "That the employes be requested to have a picnic, towards which the old members will give the sum of £2O. The Council then adjourned.
