The Australians defeated the Players by eight runs. Spofforth's bowling was very effective.
The Princess Alice, pleasure steamer, collided with another steamer off Woolwich, today. The former sank, and between 500 and 600 persons were drowned.

An excursion steamer, bouDd for London from Sheerness, has been run down. Five hundred and fifty people are known to have perished. The British fleet will shortly bo withdrawn from the Sea of Marmora to the entrance of the Dardanelles.

The second innings of the Players closed for 76. A. Bannerman scored 26 ; 0. Bannerman, 15; Horan, 4; Bailey, 12; Gregory, not out, 9; Boyle, 4; Garrett, 10 ; Allen, 4 j Spofforth, Blackham, Murdoch, nil; sundries, 6. The highest score of the Players was by G v Phillips, who made 14 ; Hearn and Charlwood, 12; Barlow, 8; Rigley, 10. The bowling of the Australians was very effective. Spofforth took four wicketß.
