THE TARIFF.
To the Editor of the Globe. Sid, —At the meeting to be held this evening at tho Music Hall, I hope the following questions will he ventilated. Copld not Mr Enhance have taken off the tpa, and sugar duties in full —Recouping the revenue by a larger ta~ on colonial beer—thus realising his dream of a free breakfast table. Every dispassionate person will agree that if the first had been done, a great toon would have been conferred. As it is, tho retail trader will pocket tho £>d and $d respectively remitted x whilst if a tax of say 6d a gallon on. colonial beer had been levied, tho brewer would have been able to charge the public, and ho would obtain the same by charging £d for every pint now sold to lhp?e‘ who now get their beer in jugs and bottles at ■t.Vd per pint. This same beer is a luxury, and as such the consumer may fairly be taxed. Yours, &c., A Fatiieb op Ten.
