Taranaki, Captain Malcolm, arrived in harbor from Auckland, via the East Coast and Wellington at 10 a.m. to-day. She was to sail for Port Chalmers, via Akaroa, at 3 p.m. . The three-masted schooner Garibaldi arrived in harbor late last night from Hokitika. She is laden with timber for Messrs Waller and Co. . The s s. Hawea will sail for Auckland, via East Coast and Wellington, at 5.30 p.m, to-day. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. Bluff, August 27. Arrived—Ringarooma, s.s. She left Melbourne on the 21st, Hobart Town, 23rd, arrived oil the Solanders at 10 last night, and steamed slowly through the Straits, arriving here early this mornIne-. Experienced strong westerly gales with high seas for two days, after which fresh southerly winds to arrival. She brings 31 saloon and 12 steerage passengers, and 400 tons cargo for all ports. She Bails at 4 p.m. for Dunedin. Passengers for Lyttelton—Messrs Stonhonso, Curtis, Cowan, Buckley, England, Paul, and G in the steerage. SUPPOSED SAFETY OP THE ATLANTA. New Plymouth, August 27. A passenger by the s.s. Tni writes to the “ Taranaki Herald” and states that on the 13th ot August they put into Guard’s Bay, during a gale, and found the schooner Atlanta there, four weeks out from Patea for Mannkau. She had run out of food, the captain saying the crew and himself had to subsist on fish and mussels for nearly a fortnight. The Atlanta was not damaged in any way. He behoved she is still sheltering iu one of the inlets oi Cook s of ship’s rail has been picked up on the Honui Beach about sft. long, and 3fiu. thick. It is supposed to have belonged to a vessel of 100 or -00 tons. It had only been in the water a short lime, as the green paint on it was quite fresh.
