POST OFFICE NOTICES.

Mails close at the Chief Post Office for th* following places as under, subject to the neoessan alteration* - SATUEDAY, AUGUST 24. For Otago, per Hawea, at 11 a.m.; late letters, 11.20 a m, ; railway station, 12.10 p.m. train. Mails per Arawata will close as under For United Kingdom, Continent of Europe, via Southampton and Brindisi, India, China, and the East, at 3 p.m.; late letters 3.20 p.m. For South and Australian Colonies, at 3 p,m.; te letters, 3.20 p.m. Money orders, registered letters, books, and newspaners, at 2 p.m. Late letters for the above mails can be posted in the guard's van attached to the 4 p.m. train to Lyttelton, provided such letters bear an additional single rate of postage ns a late fen. The mail via Brindisi will be due in London on October 21st, and that via Southampton on October 28th. Letters for the United Kingdom, &c., must be specially addressed for tho route they are intended to go by.
