NEW GUINEA AND FIJI.

[Per Hero, via Auckland.) Intelligence received at Cooktown from Now Guinea reports that a great number of men in tic digging party aro sick. Matters arc very critical. The Sappho arrived with welcome supplies of medicine. No gold is reported as having been found yet, although strong colors are said to have been obtained. FIJI NEWS. Deveanx was sworn in as Lieutenant Governor. Commander Moore, of the Alacrity, was fined J 520 for breach of quarant.ne regulations. A Chinaman was fined <£lo9 for smuggling opium. A German at tbe Line Island was murdered by natives. News from Solomon Islands show that it was not Wright who was killed, but a man named Townsend. A boy employed by him was seriously speared.
