CHARITABLE AID AND HOSPITAL BOARD.

The Board met on Saturday night at the Hospital, at half-past six o'clock. Present— His Worship the Mayor (chairman), Mr G. Booth, Dr. Turnbull, and Mr J. E. March. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Government, forwarding Mr Restell's report on the educational state of the Lyttelton Orphanage. The Chairman reported that the Government had placed £IOO to his credit for the payment of sundry accounts. A telegram was received from the Government enquiring if Kaikoura patients could be received from time to time in tho Hospital, and what would be a fair charge for their admission. It was resolved that the Government be informed that patients could be admitted from Kaikoura at the rate of £2 per week until sufficient data is obtained of the actual cost of Christohurch patients in the Hospital, all expenses of removal to be paid for. Referring to Mr Bradley's letter re boy from the Orphanage, it was resolved that the boy should be apprenticed for five years, the first year to receive food, clothing, and medical attendance ; the second year the same advantages, with the addition of 5s per month ; the third year, 20s per month; the fourth year, 30s; the fifth and last year, £2 3s 4d per month. Payment to bo made quarterly to t he Charitable Aid Board.

The Board decided to inspect the Ashburton depot on the 20th instant. The case of the gatekeeper's dismissal was considered, but nothing was done in the matter further than it was resolved to enquire into the circumstances that led to it. The Board then adjourned.
