DRAINAGE BOARD.

A special meeting of the Drainage Board was held this morning, for the purpose of receiving the report of the sub-committee appointed to confer with the Heathcote Road Board with regard to the position of the Ferry road sewer, also for receiving and considering tenders for the construction of the sewer. The following were present: —Messrs Tancred (chairman), Duncan, Harman, Ross, and Hobbs. The minutes of the committee meeting were read, and Mr Harman reported as the result of the conference the following resolutions : —“That this meeting of the Heathcote Road Board, and the committee of the Drainage Board, arc of opinion that the Ferry road storm water sewer should be placed ns near to the side of the Ferry road as possible.” “That the chairman report this resolution to the Drainage Board.” Mr Bell asked what action was to be taken. Mr Harman said that the original intention was to place the sewer in the imiddle of the road, but now the Heathcote Road Board asked that it should be placed on one side. Mr Bril said there would be no engineering difficulty in the way. On economical grounds he had thought of placing the sewer in the lino of the existing ditch, but had come to the conclusion that this was nob advisable, as the ventilation would bo awkwardly situated, and the sewer might be interfered with by buildings. The report of tho sub committee was adopted, on the motion of Mr Harman, seconded by Mr Ross, it being understood that the crown of the road was not to be broken. The Board then went into committee to consider the tenders for the construction of the sewer. There were only two tenders. On the motion of Mr Ross, seconded by Mr Duncan, the tender of Messrs Lake and Beard was accepted. On the motion of Mr Harman, seconded by Mr Duncan, the chairman was aut horised to affix the seal of the Board to the contract as drawn up by the Board’s solicitor. The Board then adjourned.
