C ABLE_NEWS. [BBUTBB’S TELEGRAMS TO THB PRESS AGENOy.I London, July 30. There has been a sharp interchange of letters between Earl Beaconsficld and Mr Gladstone respecting personalities. Mr Gladstone denied having described the Premier as dangerous, or even a “devilish” character. Earl Beaconsficld retorts that Mr Gladstone repeatedly charged him with duplicity, and had used towards him u.irebuked, the epithet “ Mephistophiles.” On the resumption of the debate in the House of Commons, Mr Gladstone said that Ministers at the late Congress had ac.ed against freedom of convention, and had abused the prerogative of the Crown, and offended friendly states. Mr Cross and Lord Sandon said that Lie Ministry had saved Turkey from the tutelage of Russia, and challenged the Opposition policy.
