CHRISTCHURCH Friday, July 19. [Before Q-. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.I Drunkenness. —Margaret Irwin alias Mary Evans was fined 40s; John Rossiter fined 10s ; and Daisy Cornfoot 20s. William G-alvin was sent to prison for a month with hard labor. Two first offenders wme fined 10s and 5s respectively, Foeg KEY AND Uttering.— Bridget Barrett was charged with forging and uttoring a cheque for £lO. On the application iof Inspector Dickson she was remanded Vo the 22nd instant. N Laeceny from the Person. —Ellen Jackson was charged with stealing a purse containing £1 14s 6d, the property of MichaVl Shanahan. The prosecutor was so drunk thaV he could not be examined. He was ordered \ to be looked up, and the case was postponed till Saturday. '

Larceny.—Hugh Williams was charged, on remend with stealing a wat ch and chain, the properly of one Joseph Brown. A witness named Thomas Driver stated that on Monday afternoon he saw Brown and prisoner in one of the rooms at the Saxon Hotel. Prisoner had his arm round Brown’s waist when witness went into the room. Prisoner said to Brown that he would have some money from him, as he was an old mate of his. Brown refused to give him any. Witness then left the room, there being some other people there. Witness considered that both Brown and prisoner were drunk. Saw prisoner in the street wearing a watch chain on his waistcoat later on in the afternoon. Prisoner, who in reply to the Bench said he knew nothing of the matter as he was drunk, was sentenced to three months’ hard labor.
