ROAD BOARDS.
HEATHCOTE.
The above Board met on Thursday last, 11th instant, in the Board office. PresentMessrs W. Atwoid (chairman), E. Clephane, W. Hawker, T. G. Moule, and J. Sandford. The works committee reported on the state of several roads, *nd various works were ordered to be done. Me the office of poundkeeper, it was decided to eall for tenders from persons willing to rent the pound. The clerk reported the receipt of £9BO 9s 61 from all sources during the fortnight, this includes the sum of £416 5s 4d received from the General Government on account of the land fund to the separate account of the County of Selwyn. Two applications for remission of rates were dealt with. The following correspondence wfis read and considered :—From Engineer of Drainage Board, stating that the Ferry road sewer would be placed about 3ft 6in from the centre of the road. That the top (inside) of the sewer would be about 2ft 6in below the adjoining land, and the bottom 7ft. The size of the sewer varies from 4ft. 4in. at junction of S. and E. belt, to 4ft. Bin. at Bell's Crei'k, where it discharges. The plans being carried out are those of Mr Clark, and form part of the provision made by him to discharge rain water from the 8. E. quarter of the district, with this difference that a sewer is now to be substituted for an open ditch, as proposed by him, the Board considering that the ditch would be very inconvenient, and would cause a nuisance. All drainage that now discharges down the Ferry road drain and outfall drain will be taken by this new sewer, until Mr Clark's system of sewers for sewage are sufficiently complete to receivo the sewage, after which the Ferry road sewer will take only storm water, and the house drainage from premises along the Ferry road. The area to be drained by this sewer iB the south-east portion of the town, Sydenham, as far as Montreal street, Phillipstown, and part of the land on both sides of the Ferry road. In reference to this letter it was decided to send the following resolution to the Drainage Board :—" This Board, in the interests of the ratepayers in this portion of the district, whilst not objecting to the drainage scheme of Mr Clark, must most decidedly object to any other scheme being initiated that will leave the sewage of the city of Christchurch in the River Heathcote, at the Quay, or on the flats, even if for a temporary measure." From Mr C. L. Wiggins re road to beach at Sumner. The work to be seen to. From Messrs Fletcher, Bull, and Bell, re metalling Morton's street. To call for tenders. From the Union Bank, stating their part had been made by Government of £ll6 5s 4d to the credit of the Board, and that for the future 6 per cent, would be allowed on the daily balance. From Mr W. Coulter re rate for sido channelling. The clerk to make enquiries. From the chairman of the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board re endowments for Road Board?. To be acknowledged with thanks, and inform them the Board will co-operate with the other Boards. From Mr J. L. Wilson re land fund. The mMev to be left in the hands of the committee appointed. After parsing accounts amounting to £4lB 12a the Board adjourned.
