VOLUNTEERS.
Tho monthly inspection parade of tho Christchurch Volunteer Artillery, Engineers, aud City Guards took place last evening in the Drill Shed. The battery of Artillery was under the command of Lieutenants Stansell and Strange ; the Engineers under the command of Captain Warner and Lieutenant Anderson; and the City Guards under the command of Captain Hawkes and Lieutenant Wolfe, the whole battalion being under command of Major Lean. Battalion drill having been gone through, the companies had a short march out, and on returning to the Drill Shed were dismissed.
The half-yearly meeting of the Christchurch Volunteer Artillery was then held in the Orderly room. Lieutenant Star sell occupied the chair, in the absence of Captain Craig. The minutes of the last half-yearly meeting were read and confirmed. Lieutenant Strange stated that the capitation money, amounting to between £BO and £9O had been received, in part payment of the 25 uniforms which had been sent for. A great many accounts had been passed for payment. A few still remained unpaid, but still the finances were in a satisfactory state, the balance being on the right side. There would be about £7O or £BO to meet the balance due on the uniforms.
Lieutenant Strange suggested the desirability of members paying up their arrears of subscriptions as soon as possible, as there were a great many behindhand, and that was by no means a satisfactory state of things, in view of paying off liabilities as they became due.
The following members of tho battery were elected as the firing committee for the ensuing half-year : Sergeant - Armourer Mapp, Bombardier Mills, Gunner Hill, Ser-geant-Major Raven, Corporal Hill, and Corporal Agnew.
