INFECTIOUS DISEASES REPORT. The following cases were reported since the last meeting of the Board, on June 21st:— Low fever, 1; typhoid, 4 ; fever, 2 ; erysipelas, 1; scarlet fever, 5 ; dyptheria, 2 ; /scarlatina, 5. INSPECTOR OP NUISANCES REPORT. The report was read aa follows: — 1. As directed by tbe Board, I have obtained a map, and am marking it as an index, to tbe 1 ocahties of infectious diseases. 2. I have- again written to Mr Minchin, calling attention to the condition of the private street off the Caledonian road, owned by him, nothing having been done to prevent water lying there during wet weather. The street should be formed, and until formed should be closed agaiust traffic, in conformity with clause 58 of the Act. I report the same to be a nuisance or injurions to health. 3. The side channel on south side of South Town Belt contains a quantity of stagnant drainage, and during wet weather deep holes of black mud in tbe carriage way render traffic over it exce lingly danugerons. 4. In reply to Mr Hewitt, who is again complaining of a nuisance from premises of MiHancock, candlemaker, I have pointed out the course necessary to be taken under clause 78 of the Act. , 5. Mr Roach, Knightstown, has complained of the condition of a drain made through his land by the Drainage Board for taking stagnant water from the neighbourhood ; to bo of service, it should be cleaned out. The engineer of the Drainage Board has visited the spot. f». Complaint has been made of a nuisance on premises of Mr Hill, Innes road, market gardener. I have inspected the premises, and found it to have been caused by some manure brought from a slaughter yard. At time of inspection it hud been dealt with, so that no nuisance could arise therefrom. Some pigs in styes abutting on the road will be removed at onc.e, and the styes put back a sufficient distance from the roadway. 7. I have conferred with the chairman of the Board in reference to a notice returned by Messrs Harman and Stevens, the notice being headed " Local Board of Health," and gave notice to construct suitable drains from certain premises to the concrete side channel in front of name. Messrs Harman and Stevens requested the required work might be done, and charged to thorn. By direction of the chairman, I returned it to the City Council by whom it was served. 8. I have inspected from house to house at Bingsland, and have served noticss where necessary. Wn. Pearce, Chief linpector of Nuisances. The report was considered clause by clause. The question of Mr Minchin's land in clause 2 waß allowed to remain in abeyance for the present. With regard to the place indicated in clause 3, it was resolved to call the attention of the City Council to it. The matters in ckuees 4 and 5 had already

been attended to and the nuisance mitigated. Clause 7. It was resolved to call the attention of the City Council to the desirability of the answers to the notices to persons to construct suitable drains from private premises to side channels being sent to the City Council.

The report as a whole was adopted. A letter was read from J. H. Hewett, complaining of the nuisance arising from the boiling-down establishment of Mr Hancock, Montreal street south, and suggesting an early visit from the inspector of nuisances would be desirable.

The letter was referred to the inspector. After passing sundry accounts for payment the Board adjourned.
