HIGHWAY ROBBERY.

To the Editor of the Globe. Sir, —I write to tell you oars’ is a divided house—that is to say in newspapers. My husband swears by the “Lyttelton Times,” which he takes in regularly, but I spend a penny nightly on your paper. I saw something in it the other night, your leading article I think it is called, in which you sav that the Government have robbed the Road Boards -of ('anterbury of some money that ought to have been paid to them, blow, I know there are always two sides to every question, si I carefully looked at the leading articles in the “Lyttelton Times” to see if they say anything about it, bnt not one single wo-d have I seen. My next door neighbor, who knows more about these matters than 1 do, says she thinks the reason why the “ Times” don't say a word about it is because the Government have “ put their foot in it,” and as the paper can’t say anything in the favor of the Government in the matter, they hold their tongues, on the principle that “the more it’s stirred, the more ’twill stink ’’ But tell me, sir, have the Government really comm'tted “ Highway Bobbery.” I asked our William about it and he says he is quite sure you have made a mistake, because as his paper (that’s the ‘ Lyttelton Times,” sir) is an independent paper, and not a Government paper, would soon have a leading article about it if it was true, telling me at the same time that women did’nt ought to bother their heads about politics. 1 think different, sir, and so I told him; because 1 think politics mean what relates to voting for members for the General 4ssembly, and as those members make our taxes, it affects women as much as men, since everybody, more or less, have to pay their share of the taxes. I hope, sir, you will be able to read this. Yours, &c., A READER OF THE “GLOBE ”
