Arrangements have been made between the Government and corporation by which the Government agree to sell Thorndon reclamation to the city upon payment of £89,000 This sum is to be payment in full of all charges. The Government, moreover, promise to introduce a Bill into Parliament to enable the Corporation to carry out the purchase. The extent of the street frontage in the reclaimed land is 7620 ft. Captiin llolmwood, of the Hydrabad, and the members of the Underwriters' Association conferred to-day as to the advisablenees of att erupting to get the ship off, and it was decided to make an effort, -which it is thought may bo successful, provided no unfavorable change in weather takes place. The National Bank haa received advices of the floating of the waterworks loan of £25,500, placed to the credit of the city. July 7. The privileges for the fortneoming steeplechase realised £lO6 to-day. The committee are now largely in funds. The plaat of the late "Temuka Leader" newspaper has been purchased by Alexander Wilson, a storekeeper, Temuka, and the paper will be revived. The Mount Cook and Geraldine Road Boards have determined to join in the legal proceedings against the Government re land fund.
