CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

Monday, July" 8. An adjourned meeting of the newly-formed Charitable Aid Board was held at 10 a.m. Present —His Worship the Mayor of Christchurch (chairman), his Worship the Mayor of Sydenham, Messrs W. Montgomery, J. E. March, and J. Evans Brown. The Chairman stated that he had received the following telegram from tho Government, accepting the terms proposed by the Board on the Ist July : His Worship the Mayor of Christchurch. Government accepts terms for management of Hospital and Charitable Aid. Thought that would be understood from my telegram of tho 2nd inst. G. S. Whitmore. A letter of apology was received from Dr. Turnbull, staling that an engagement made prior to bis being notified of this morning's meeting would render it impossible Tor him to attend. The question of boundaries was the first considered, and it was resolved on the motion of Mr J. E. Brown—" That the whole of the provincial district of Canterbury, north of the Rangitata, at present under the supervision of Mr March, should be taken under the control of tho Board, it being understood that any local body should be at liberty to make arrangements with the Government at any time to take charge of their own charitable aid institutions. The Board then proceeded to investigate the eases at present receiving charitable aid seriatim, and after the transaction of a considerable amount of business, adjourned.
