In the Police C urt to-day Andrew Ryan was charged with having broken into St. Peter’s Church, Queenstown, in April last, with intent to rob. He was remanded to Queenstown. In the District Court to-day the Corporation sued the Timaru Lauding Service for £25, rates for property on the beach, of which £5 had been paid into Court. Judie Ward held that the property, being half above and half below high water mark, rates could only be claimed on half of it, and gave judgment tor £lO, the Borough Council to pay its own costs. This decision is likely to conflict with the Harbor Board’s interest, as their high water boundary is much higher up, and they claim all the land on which the buildings stand.
