CORN EXCHANGE.
The weekly meeting of the committee of the Corn Exchange was held at the committee looms, Tattersall’s, on Saturday last. Present—Captain Willis, Messrs Thos. Bruce, Jas. Gammack, Wm. Henderson, Hy. W. Peryman, and Alex. Paterson ; Captain Willis in the chair. The secretary read the following letter, from general railway manager:— General Manager’s Office, Christchurch, 10th June, 1878. Mr Wm. Bateman, Secretary Corn Exchange. Sir, —I am instructed by the Commissioner, in reply to your letter of the 22nd May, to inform you that we cannot recommend the erection of goods sheds at Addington, but he is quite willing to sanction the erection of a platform. This will, I presume, give the accommodation required, I have the honor to be, sir, Your obedient a want, Fred. Back, General Manager. The secretary was requested to acknowledge receipt of the letter from Mr Back, the general manager of railways, and to convey the thanks and approval of the committee for granting the appl cation for receiving and delivering goods at the Addington railway station. The subject of reading a paper upon some interesting matter was discussed. It was resolved, upon the motion of Mr Hy. W. Peryman, seconded by Mr Jas. Gammack — “ That the chairman of committee, Captain Willis, be asked to read the first paper.” Captain Willis stated that he would bo prepared to read a paper on Saturday, the 27th of July, on the subject of the best management of grass land. The business of the meeting then terminated.
