The Danubian and Bulgarian fortresses are to to be dismantled. London, June 26. The Queen of Spain is dead. [special to the press agency.] London, June 26. The Colonists have arranged a banquet to the Australian cricketers, to take place on July 23rd. The Duke of Manchester will preside. The Prussian Government have restored to the Duke of Cumberland the sequestered property of the late King of Hanover. Congress has decided that Varna and Schumla be evacuated forthwith, and that for each temporary Commissioners-General be appointed by Russia and the Porte. AUSTRALIA. [FBOM OtTB OWN COBBESPONDENT.] Sydney, June 23. Carlama is the favorite for the Metropolitan and the Melbourne Cup, and is backed at 100 to 5. INTERPROVINCIAL. [PBB PBESS AGENCY.] Nelson, June 28. A house belonging to Mr Watkins, late manager of the Bank of New Zealand, was completely destroyed by fire last night. It was in an isolated position, and had not been occupied for several weeks, Mr Watkins and family having left for Taranaki. When the alarm was given the fire had a firm hold, and when the brigade arrived their services were of little avail. It was insured in the Victoria for £2OOO. Ddnedin, June 28. The Attorney-General's opinion is in favor of the position taken up by the Education Board, and that that body has the power of refusing to appoint the teachers recommended by the school committees. A meeting of trades delegates was held last evening tor the purpose of deciding what action should be taken in tho present election for the city. There being but poor attendance, those present decided to lot the matter drop. It was afterwards proposed, and unanimously carried —" That a committee should be immediately formed for the purpose of drawing up a programme, with the view to the formation of a trades political association, such committee to report to the meeting of delegates."
