THE IMPOUNDED LAND FUND.

The following circular has been address to the chairmen of the various Road Boards by Mr J. L. Wilson, chairman of the Avon Board; — Avon Road Beard Office, June 11th, IS7B. To the Chairman of the Road Board. Sir, —I am directed ‘by the Avon Road Board to call the attention of the Road Boards in the County of Selwyn to the necessity of some steps being taken to obtain for them the payment of the large sums duo on account of the land fund to the 31st December last. It appears from the circular recently issued by the County Council that no less than .£300,000 is now withheld from Road Boards and County Councils in the Canterbury Provincial District contrary to law, and teat applications to the Government for the payment of this sum have hitherto been in vain. The Avon Road Board suggests that a meeting should be held of representatives of Road Boards with a view of ascertaining whether some steps cannot be taken which would ensure the payment of the money, and I have been directed to propose that such meeting should be held at Radcliffe’s Hotel, in Christchurch, on Wednesday, the 26th Juiie, ay 11 o’clock a.m. I shall feel much obliged if you will lay this letter before your Board as early as possible, with the view of sending representatives to such meetingShould it not be convenient for you to send a representative, would you be good enough to send on expression of opinion on the subject from yonr Board.
