The “ San Francisco Trade Review” reports for the week ending May th: — FREIGHTS AND CHARTERS. As was to be expected at this time of the year, the freight market has been dull and rates nominal during the week just closed. Exporters are indisposed to take up tonnage, and owners do not seem anxious to fix their vessels, preferring to take their chances when the now crop comes in. Wheat freights are stagnant. The ship St. David has been fixed to close for Liverpool at a private rate, but understood to be £2 10s. For new crop loading we hear of no demand at present f»r ships now in port, and none for ships to arrive. The prospects of the coming crop continue excellent, reports from nil parts of the country being very flattering. Outside business is inactive, an occasional charter only being drawn. At the close wo have 4910 tons in port loading wheat, and 2720 tons for new crop loading, 6762 tons miscellaneous, and 31,314 tons disengaged. The total amount of tonnage on the way from all ports now foots up 204,509, a large increase since last week. PRODUCE MARKET, The quotations below represent receivers’ prices for round lots and are made up from actual transactions. Extreme quo ations can only be realised for produce that comes up to the standard of choice in every respect, and the quality, condition and care taken in preparing produce for market are very closely examined by buyers. Prices for grain are gold, unless otherwise specified. Fruit and vegetables are silver. PRESENT AND COMPARATIVE PRICES. Flour.—The market is dull, and a reduction of 12$c per bbl. has been made by the leading mills to the local trade. For China a good demand is to be noted, and the scarcity of superfine has caused considerable lots of extra to be taken, this grade being comparatively cheaper. The export inquiry for other points is very slack. Quotations are as follows Superfine, sdol to sdol 50c; shipping extra, 6dol to 6dol 12^c; extras in jobbing lots, 6dol 50c gold, »nd 6dol 67-Jc silver per bbl. Wheat. —The position of the market is substantially the same as last week, and although the tone has been easy, still the scarcity of choice grades enables holders to maintain comparatively firm demands. Two dollars and twelve and a half cents per cental is the top of the market for choice milling, and very good milling has been sold at 2dol 10c per cental. English and New York advices report a decline which, however, has had little effect here. The business of the week has been chiefly confined to milling grades, although some small lots of choice shipping have been taken to fill vessels on the berth. Sales of new crop for delivery in July and August have been made on the basis of Idol 75c per cental, and Idol 70c to Idol 75c is the ruling price, although only a moderate amount of business in this line has so far been consummated. At the close the tone is decidedly easy. Quotations arc—2dol to 2dol oc per cental for shipping, and 2dol 5c to 2dol 121 c per cental for milling. Barley.—The tendency of prices continues to be downward, and common feed has sold as low ns 90c per cental. There is a marked absence of demand, and the clearing out of wcevily stock continues. Even choice brewing descriptions, which hitherto have held up well, show symptoms of weakness, although the moderate stock disposes holders to resist any further decline. Accounts of the growing crop continue to be all that could bo desired, and an extraordinary yield is confidently looked forward to. Feed is quotable at 92Jc to Idol per cental; brewing descriptions at Idol 15c to Idol 25c per cental. Oats.—With light supplies from the North, prices are fairly maintained, and good feed has sold in some cases at a little advance over last week’s quotations. Otherwise the market is without features of interest and dealings email. Brices range from Idol 25c to Idol 15c per cental for fair to choice feed.
