The Australian Sovereign left Newcastle, N.S.W., for here on May 23rd. The Alma, arrived at Melbonrne from Lyttelton on May 25th, after a passage of twenty days, during ■which sho encountered a heavy S.W. gale and lost some of her sails. The s.s. Hawea, for Auckland, via East Coast, and St. Kilda, for Wanganui, both sailed this afternoon. The New Zealand Shipping Co.'s ship Waikato Bailed at 11.30 a.m. to-day with a favorable wind. AEEIVAL OF THE SHIP DUKE OF AEGYLE, FEOM LONDON. The Hawea on arrival yesterday reported a ship off Pigeon Bay, and about 11.30 a.m. she was signalled. She proved to be the New Zealand Shipping Company's chartered ship Duke of Argyle, 969 tons, Captain Davidson. She is an iron vessel, was buHt at Dnmbarton in 18G5, and belongs to Messrs Montgomery and Greenhorn, of London. She brings 24 passengers and a large and valuable cargo. Captain J. Davidson reports leaving Gravesend on February 22nd, and taking final departure from Scilly on March sth. Had easterly weather and fine across the Bay; caught N.E. trades in 25 N. on March 10th, and lost them in 3 N. on March 23rd. Crossed the Equator on night of 25th in 28 W. Caught S.E. trades in 6 S. on March 28th, and lost them in 17 S. on April 4th. Th; nee to meridian of the (ape had variable winds, principally from the westward, and fine weather, passing meridian on the 23rd of April. Ean down easting between 42 and 43 S., having fresh winds and u uch rain. Arrived off the Leewin 74 days from Scilly. Passed the Snares on June Ist, and sighted Nugget Point on the 3rd. Made the Peninsula following day, and on that date had to stand to sea with a S.E. gale, the weather being thick, dense fogs prevailing. Made the Heads on Saturday night, and were taken in tow by the p.s. Titan at 3 p.m. yesterday, arriving at an anchorage at 5 p.m. Was in company with the Soukar in the Channel, and in 13 S. on March 20th spoke the Durham, bound to Calcutta, and was again in company with her a fortnight later. On May 26th signalled the ship Prince Eegent, of St. John's, N. 8., from Bombay to Callao, sixtythree days out. The passage has seen a fine-weather one, and only eighty-seven days were occupied on the voyage from Scilly to the Snares. Bad weather in the Channel and on our coast have made what would otherwise have been a smart passage a lengthy one. The second and third class passengers were located down the after-hatch, and speak well of the treatment they received.

CLEAEANCE OF THE WAIKATO. This fme liner of the New Zealand Shipping Company cleared on Saturday with a large and valuable cargo, worth £05,019. Owing to the nature of her cargo she is well out of the water, and in splendid sailing' trim, drawing about 15ft. 6iu. Besides her cargo the Waikuto takes thirtynine passengers. She was towed into the stream by the p.s. Titan yesterday morning, and sails today on the arrival of the 9 a.m. tram from Christchurch. We append detailed list of her cargo, with approximate values: — 1265 bales wool 25,300 703 pockets and bags wool 45'21 715 casks tallow 10,010 4088 sacks wheat 4000 730 eases meats 2208 1 case effects 50 1 case euriositieß 16 15 bales leather 50 10 bags bones 4 I boxos gold (i8230z. Odwts. 12gr.) 19,700 HATLING OF THE WESTERN MONAECH AND BAI TEEVELYAN. Tho unfavorable weather which has eo long detained these ships fortunately broke on Saturday morning, and about 7,30 ft,m. that

day their anchofs were broke out, and they made sail. The breeze was very light from the S.W., bnt it enabled them to get well clear of the Heads. They remained in sight, however, many honrs. They must have cleared the land during Saturday night, for when the Wakatipn and Hawea arrived yesterday morning, they reported having seen no traces of them off the Peninsula. SHIPPING TELEGEAMS. Auckland, June 8. Sailed—Albatross, for Lytteltou. Wellington, June 10. The Easby sailed for Newcastle at 11.30 a.m., with eighteen passensrers.
