The Customs duties collected here on Thursday, June 6th, amounted to £6BB Is 4d. At the sitting of the Waste Lands Board on Thursday, June 6th, 6796 acres and 16 perches were disposed of, re.lising £13,592 4s. The land is situated as under Ashley, 3778 acres; Selwyn, 1005 acres 1 rood; Akaroa, 419 acres; Ashburton, 1420 acres and 16 perches; Geraldine, 133 acres 3 roods j Waimate, 40 acres, SALE OF THE OTAIO PEOPEETY. The Otaio property, lately owned by Messrs Teschemaker and LeCren, and sold by Messrs J. T. Ford and Co. at Mr C. Clark’s rooms on Monday last, comprised 17,259 acres of freehold, 22,000 acres of leasehold, 24,000 sheep of mixed ages and sexes, 16 horses, and 16 head of cattle. The freehold was always considered to be of first-class quality, possessing the advantages of water, climate, and soil. It forms a compact block, is within six miles of the Makikihi and Otaio railway stations, and is distant from Timaru about eighteen miles. The conditions wore £IO,OOO cash on the fall of the hammer, the balance within two mouths from date of sale; and notwithstanding such stringent terms, viz., cash, the property realised £191,000, the buyers being Messrs Xeschemaker Brothers, partners in the property. Mr E. J. T. Ford sold yesterday, on behalf of Mr Willis, 15 acres of laud at Opawa, part of rural section 38, at £9O per acre, Mr W. B. Bray being the purchaser. Messrs Bullock and Co. sold by auction yesterday at Ashburton a number of sections in the Wukanni township at prices ranging from £l2 10s to £22. As an instance of the remarkable increase in the value of sections in Ashburton, it is stated that a gentleman yesterday sold a quarter-acre section near the railway for £Boocash. The recent heavy rains have entirely prevented transactions in grain. The grain market is very dull for this time of the year. Farmers are busy ploughing, though the recent heavy rains retard farming operations. Wheat, 3s lOd; oats, 3s; barley, 3s 3d to 4s 9d. Napier, Juno 7. Nathan’s Awarua leasehold property of 8300 acres in Tolega Bay district, with 3500 sheep and 50 head of cattle, was sold for £4BOO to Mr Charles Clark, of Kaikoura. The lease has seventeen years to run.
