BOARD OF HEALTH.

Friday, June 7. The Board of Health held its usual meeting. Present—Messrs Ross (chairman), Duncan, Tancred, and Hobbs, The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. inspector’s report. The inspector’s report was read as follows : 1. In accordance with instructions I have inspected the premises of Mr Kinp, Addington; Mr Hancock, Newtown; Mr Hosier, Ferry road, candle makers. I found the premises in satisfactory condition, the tallow being melted in close steam tight boilers, the nuisance arising during tho process of melting being reduced to a minimum; in the case of Mr Horler, however, hie premises, abutting on the road side, the smell from tho factory is sometimes detected and complained of; also, the premises of Mr Sheridan, St- Albans. On these premises the tallow is melted in an open vessel by dry heat. The premises I found in satisfactory condition, and no complaints are made. 2. Mr S. Dennis having applied to the Court for an extension of time to comply with an order for abatement of nuisance arising from the keeping of pigs, was refused. The Court drew attention to the penalties incurred under clause 63 of the Act for disobeying the order. 3. Owing to complaint by Mr Williams, St. Albans, market gardener, tbat his land was flooded through the foul state of a drain, 1 inspected and found it required to be cleared out. It was stated to have been formerly kept in order by the Avon Bond Board. I have spoken to tho engineer of tho Drainage Board on the subject, who made a nots of it for his attention. 4. I have served a notice on Mr McDerraot, High street, Kuightston, to abate a nuisance arising from his premises being in such a state as to be a nuisance, or injurious to health, and I require authority for farther proceedings, if necessary, under clause 60 of the Act. 5. The notice served on Mr Minchin to fill up an open drain on a private street has been attended to. the premises, however, cannot be greatly improved until the lowering of the water in tho main watercourses shall have been accomplished. 6. I have re-visited some premises in Phillipstown, and found notices to have been complied with and completed the inspection from house to house of that district. Wm. Peauce, Chief Inspector of Nuisances, The report was considered clause by clause. Clauses 1 and 2 were considered satisfactory, aud clause 3 was referred to the engineer. With regard to clause 4, tho inspector was directed to take action under clause 60 of the Act. Clauses 5 and 6 were considered satisfactory. Sundry accounts being passed for payment, the Board adjonrned until Friday, June 21st.
