MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, May 22. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.] Resisting a Constable. —William Teague, for being drunk and disorderly, and assaulting Constable Hewitt, was fined 60s. A list of previous convictions was handed to the Bench by the Inspector. Laeoeny.—Henry Russell, alias Buchanac, alias Stewart, and George Lowden, were charged with stealing £4 from the person of William Rowbery. They had been caught in the act of robbing prosecutor. On the application of Inspector Hickson they were remanded for twenty-foui hours. Lunacy.—Frederick Pearson was, on the certificate of Drs. Patrick and Frankish, sent to Sunnyside. LYTTELTON. Wednesday, May 22. [Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.] Refusal op Duty.—William Lewis, a sailor on board the Omaha, brigantine, was charged by the master of that vessel with this offence. Mr H. N. Nalder appeared for Captain Hughes. Accused was sentenced to a week's imprisonment with hard labour.
