Vogel propose to the Cable Conference that the colonies should purchase all lines, at a cost of £1,700,000, and that a duplicate cable to New Zealand should be laid from Tasmania at a cost of £200,000. The Conference is favourable. The barque Alexandra, of Sydney, bound from Newcastle to Timor, was burnt at sea. The crew were saved. Breadstuffs are easier. INTER? Communication will be restored on Thursday.
