Vogel propose to the Cable Conference that the colonies should purchase all lines, at a cost of £1,700,000, and that a duplicate cable to New Zealand should be laid from Tasmania at a cost of £200,000. The Conference is favourable. The barque Alexandra, of Sydney, bound from Newcastle to Timor, was burnt at sea. The crew were saved. Breadstuffs are easier. INTER?
