FOOTBALL.

Cranmer square presented a lively appearance on Saturday afternoon, when there was a large attendance of members of the Christchurch Football Club to contest a match between a picked fifteen and the rest of the club, the latter side numbering over thirty players. Play commenced about three o'clock, but for some little time nothing worthy of note took place on either side. Finally Wachsman got a touch-down for the club, and Hartland made a good try for goal, but just missed owing to the strong wind prevailing at the time. At the end of the second spell the Club added two force-downs to their score, the Fifteen being unable to hold their own against such long odds. In the next spell two morn force-downs were scored to the credit of the Club, and towards its close, by a fine run and otherwise smart bit. of play on the part of Ataek, the Fifteen sent the ball over their opponents' goal line, and forced them to touch it down in self-defence. Before time was called in the final spell, the Club added two other force-downs to their score, and the match terminated in their favour by one touchdown a; d six force dowus to one torco-down. On the part of the Ciub Stringer made some brilliant runs, whilst Hartland and sevdal others did good work in the scrimmages; but though the Club was so sirongh representees, a grtat number of the players were u< very little use •'.) their side.
