The barque Malay arrived from Newcastle this Taranaki arrived in harbor at 5.30 this morning with the inward San Francisco mail, and sailed for Port Chalmers at 1 p.m. Captain Boon, of the Southern Cross, barque, reports passing the brig Emperor 350 miles from Newcastle on April 29th, and the brig Emily 300 miles W by N. from Cape Farewell on the 3rd of May The ship Himalaya will be berthed at the Gladstone Pier on Monday morning, and the Western Monarch will be brought in and moored outside the Himalaya to commence her loading. barque Iris was berthed at the Gladstone Pier yesterday, in the George Shotten's place, to complete loading potatoes for Sydney. This shi" arrived in harbour from Port Chalmers B „ ThnrsdW night, anchoring inside the Heads at lf«m She comes here to load grain for Messrs P Cunningham and Co., and Royse, Stead and Co., and follows the George Shotten which sails on Monday next. Her cargo is to hand, and it is expected she will have extremely quick despatch, sailing within her advertised date. She commenced her loading at Port Chalmers, and has already aboard some 530 tons wheat and 87 bales of wool. The Western Monarch is a handsome iron clipper sbiP of 1315 tons register, built at Barrow-in-lurness.aud launched in November 1875, by the Barrow Ship Buildiug Company for the BoyalExchange Shipping Company. She is commanded by Captain Watson, who was previously master of the Ocean Mail, which ship he left to take the Western Monarch. No finer vessel has ever visited Lyttelton. She has all the latest improvements, including double screw patent a+pprine (rear. Her lower masts are of iron, aDd her topmasts of steel, all the yards up, to the upper tonsail vard being of the latter metal.
