Three-quarters of a mile from home Blue Ruin held a clear lead, but a quarter of a mile further on both Sheldrake and Speculation drew up on the outside, nothing else now beim,' on it. At the last hurdles Blue Ruin and Sheldrake were both in trouble, and the favourite landed with a slight adv<>n tage, but he died away to nothing making the ascent for home, and Sheldrake, running longest of the three, won a very exciting race by a neck from t»ie other pair, who ran a dead heat for second place. James Pigg was fourth, Somnus fifth, and Maristow last. Value of the stakes, £345.
The Prince of Wales's Steeplechase (Handicap) of 20 sovs. each, 10 ft, unless declared, with 300 added : winners extra; the second received 30 sovs, and the third 10 sovs. out of the stakes. Palm, list 31b; His Lordship, list 31b; Azov, KM 101 b ; Mabel, lOst 21b ; Stanley, lOst 21b ; and Canard, lOst, also ran.
Betting—2 to 1 agst Martha, sto 1 each agst Pride of Kildare and Palm, 6 to 1 each agst Azov and Tuba, 7 to 1 agst Stanley, and 8 to 1 agst Canard. The lot were despatched at the first attempt, and Martha immediately assumed a clear lead of Azov and Palm, Tuba lying next, in front of Stanley, with the others all in a cluster to the fence down the hill, over which Mabel fell and rolled over rider, who was fortunate to escape unhurt. No further change occurred until passing the pay-gate, when Martha was still clear, Palm, Stanley, and Azov, all else together, tying next, with His Lordship and Canard the last pair. After running a mile Stanley joined Martha, and they were followed up the straight by Palm and Azov. Passing the stand Martha once more drew herself clear, Stanley going on second, Palm third, and Azov fourth, and Pride of Kildare and Tuba next, His Lordship now being last, a long way behind. About a mile from home the favourite was still in possession of the command, having for her nearest attendant Stanley, while Azov, who now began to hang out signals of distress, was compelled to cede his place to Pride of Kildan>, Mr Cooper's horse going on fourth, closely pursued by Tuba and Palm Soon after jumping the brook for the second time Stanley once more raced up to VI artha, and the pair went on side by si'ie about two lergths clear of Pride of Kilda'e, who held but a slight advantage of Tuba, Azov having now dropped back in company with His Lordship. Making the bend into the straight Martha again obtained a slight advantage of Stanley, who was in trouble as soon as they were 'airly in the line for home, and dropping back left Pride of Kildare and Tuba io dispute the honours with Martha. Of the latter pair Tuba could not sustain the effort beyond the last hurdles, and although Pride of Kildare, struggled with her customary gameness to overhaul the favourite, the attempt was unavailing, and Martha, holding her own to the end, literally cantered in a winner by two lengths ; three lengths divided the second and third. Palm whs a bad fourth, Canard fifth. His ( o r dship sixth, Stanley next, and Azov last. Tiir iby Benson's chronograph, 6'min. 49secs. Value of the stake £ooo.

Betting—9 to 4 agst Sultana, sto 2 each agst Chilblain and Jupiter Tonans, and 7 to 1 each agst Victory and Moatlands. Victory showed the way, followed by Sultana and Tonans, Chilblain lying next, and Harebell, soon dropping back, last. They ran thus to tbe iirst fence, when Chilblain j iued Victory, and landed with a slight advantage, but he was quickly pulled back again, and Jupiter Tcnans fell over the water-jump, only, however, in turn to give way to Victory aud Suit ma, Harebell g >ing on fourth and Chilblain last, with the exception of Moatlands, who fell at the bro >k, and took no further part in the race. After they hj.d run a mile Harebell became last ag in, aud on passing the stand Victory held a lead of some half-dozen lengths of Sultana and Jupiter Tonans ; Harebell aud Chieftain being nect, and Chilblain last. Rounding the top turn Victory still further increased 1 is lead, aud Jupiter Tonans went o.u seoond, with Sultana third, and Chilblain next. Harebell refused rounding the bottom turn, where Victory btill held a long lead, but Chilblain gradually closing on him, g t on terms after jumping the last fenco, and striding along, won in a cantev by a neck ; a la 1 third ; Sultana was fourth.
