THE MAORI KING AND SIR GEORGE GREY.
[By Telegraph.] [FROM DUE OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Auckland, May 10. At the Kingite meeting to-day Tawhaio asked for the restoration of the Waikato. Sir Q-. G-rey said it was impossible, and offered Tawhaio £SOO a year and all the unsold confiscated land on the west bank of the Waikato to the mouth, and to build him a house in Ngaruawaliia. The natives have taken time to consider.
